We the People was a professional learning workshop designed for and delivered to a group of teachers in Las Vegas, New Mexico. It included information about the history of graffiti lettering, contemporary practitioners of graffiti, and a hands-on making component where teachers learned the basic skills of freestyle graffiti lettering.

Educator and designer Roni Rohr originated “We the People” as a graffiti workshop many years ago. We worked collaboratively to revise her template to include additional historical information as well as video and audio clips of contemporary graffiti artists. In addition to co-teaching, I wrote the workshop proposal and secured fiscal sponsorship for ten teachers who attended this one-day, four-hour, remote, hands-on graffiti drawing workshop. All completed the workshop with a graffiti-drawn, designed version of their name.  Materials were purchased and provided in advance.

The project was funded and sponsored by New Mexico Arts.
