We the People was a professional learning workshop designed for and delivered to a group of teachers in Las Vegas, New Mexico. It included information about the history of graffiti lettering, contemporary practitioners of graffiti, and a hands-on making component where teachers learned the basic skills of freestyle graffiti lettering.

Educator and designer Roni Rohr originated “We the People” as a graffiti workshop many years ago. We worked together to revise and expand her template to include more historical information, video and audio clips of contemporary graffiti artists. I also wrote the proposal for the workshop, secured the funding and fiscal sponsorship, and worked with Roni to hone the delivery of the workshop.
Ten teachers attended this one-day, four-hour, remote, hands-on graffiti drawing workshop. All completed the workshop with a graffiti-drawn, designed version of their name.  Materials were purchased and provided in advance.

The project was funded and sponsored by New Mexico Arts.
